Transition your Home’s HVAC System from Winter to Spring Smoothly

Seasonal maintenance, yet another thing that comes with the switch from Winter to Spring. We hope to hear that you’ve been keeping up with your air conditioning and heating system maintenance, but that is not always the case. It is sadly one of the most commonly overlooked home maintenance precautions. These are necessary to ensure that your heater and air conditioner system will work efficiently through every season.

Transitioning from Winter weather to Warmer weather can be fairly easy. It’s like switching your Winter to your Spring wardrobe. It’s going to take some time to fully transition and give your clothes some TLC. With a few of these simple reminders and advice you can transition your system safely.

Reduce Drafts

Drafts from leaky or poorly sealed windows can not only cause loss of air but also efficiency. Imagine you’re blowing into a balloon with a hole in it. Is the balloon ever going to get full? No, you’re going to keep putting in air (energy) into it without every getting anywhere. The same goes for your home’s air supply when there are places for it to escape. Apply caulking around window seals to seal that air in. Also, if you have drafts over or under doors, take care of them as well. If you don’t have the money to fix it at the moment, a quick tip is to place a towel where the draft is.

Ensuring your duct work is properly sealed and maintained is just as important as the above. There are special sealants that can be used for your duct work. Just ask us how we can get you started.

Plan for Spring

Who knows what damage your air conditioning condenser went through this Winter? No one knows until they have a professional out there to look. Even small problems can become greater when left untreated. Not only will you be getting your home ready for warmer weather, but you can also ensure that whatever damage was done during Winter will be fixed. Now is the time to start planning your Spring checkup.

Clean your Outside Air Conditioner Equipment

Weeds run wild and dirt does as it pleases during Winter months. A simple tip is to spray down your condenser outside. Get rid of everything that has stuck to it. We suggest spraying carefully and if there is any grime left over, apply some mild soap. Be careful not to bend the fins, as these are fragile and easily bent.

Usually we prefer you not to use a hose attachment, but if you must, stay at least a foot away from the coil itself to avoid damage. Here is a photo of an example of this.

 Furnace and Air Conditioning Transition

Have a strong end to the Winter season and make sure that you’re ready for Spring. It’s best to make sure you shut down your furnace/ heating unit properly and that it is clean and ready to go for the next heating season. Always check for frayed wires, dirty filters, and things that could potentially hurt you for next Winter. As always, we are still here to get you through the remainder of this heating season.
